How do i clean my ikea rug

we came down the other morning to a mixture of shit, piss and puke on the carpet from our dog. I was all for spot cleaning but soon realised that it was impossible seeing as DP couldnt remember where the shit was after he picked it up and there was piss and sick everywhere. Then i cleaned it with cillit bang (it was first thing in the morning and i was half asleep, it was the same colour as the vanish carpet spray). So thats not a great start.

There have been a few piss accidents on it from DD in the past. Its rolled up in the spare toilet just now, we too skint to buy a new rug just now - it was only £50 but thats £50 we don't have.

How can i clean it? And just as importantly, how can i dry it? Or do i have to chuck it?

Do you mean to clean the rug or clean your language?

Will it fit in the washing machine or is it too thick? Cittit bang is rubbish by the way.

cornsilk · 07/10/2008 23:14

in the bath?

exasperatedmummy · 07/10/2008 23:24

neither rug or my language will fit in washing machine and i would say it is too big for the bath.

I was hoping that someone would recommend some sort of miracle product that i could spray on on sponge off [over-optimistic]

Vanish spray?

I had a rug which ds used to love to vomit on. I used disinfectant, gave it a scrub and sprayed it with fabreeze. Do you know someone with a Bissell? Could you hire a carpet cleaner and do all of your carpets?

exasperatedmummy · 08/10/2008 08:57

vanish spray is what i usually use, but there was just too much of it really. I will have a think (would rather smell shit and puke than febreeze - yuck). We don't have any other carpets really, apart from a tatty one in the bedroom which isn't worth cleaning as we are going to get rid.

JML used to do a carpet cleaner with a cleaning tool (long handled scrubbing brush type thing). I think it cost about £10/15 and my friend thought it was really good. I've just sent my Ikea rugs off to be cleaned by Johnsons and paid with my clubcard points (£12.50 worth).

exasperatedmummy · 09/10/2008 08:38

Ive just bought some 1001 carpet cleaner, it looks ok - the jml thing looks good though, might invest in one of those, although it might be worth having it cleaned. Not sure where i would send it tough - £12.50 isn't bad. There have been a few accidents recently so might be worth it

It should have cost £50 at the cleaners but only £12.50 in Tesco clubcard vouchers.

exasperatedmummy · 10/10/2008 19:12

i only paid £47 for the rug in the first place
