I buy flakes of soap to use in my washing machine.

Cappuccino · 07/10/2008 20:34

handwashing

Lilymaid · 07/10/2008 20:36

Great for handwashing and soaking stained clothing.

GentleOtter · 07/10/2008 20:39

If you mix an entire box of soapflakes with a whole bottle of eucalyptus essential oil and make it go into a stiff paste -then keep it in a lidded jar - a teaspoonful to wash woollens and keeps moths away.

Anifrangapani · 07/10/2008 20:41

Felting.... but not felching

GentleOtter · 07/10/2008 20:49

What is felching?

expatinscotland · 07/10/2008 20:51

GO, do you put the paste directly into the drum? How big a box?

GentleOtter · 07/10/2008 21:01

You mix a whole box of eg Lux in a bowl with the essential oil until it is a stiff paste. Then you can scrape the whole lot into a coffee jar and when you need to wash your woollens you just take a teaspoonful out.
It lasts for ages, smells lovely and all the woollens are soft.

GentleOtter · 07/10/2008 21:04

Oh for goodness sake. I just googled that word.

Anifrangapani · 07/10/2008 21:06

Sorry should have put a do not google while there are children present disclaimer

GentleOtter · 07/10/2008 21:08

I thought it was some sort of felting technique -I have not heard of it before.

expatinscotland · 07/10/2008 21:11

i'm going to try it, GO!

thanks!

LadyOfWaffleIsScaryEnough · 09/10/2008 00:52

Thanks! I don't wear wool though ... but will wash something in it! What's felting?

SuperBunny · 09/10/2008 01:05

LOL @ LoW asking what felting is but not felching.

Sorry

LadyOfWaffleIsScaryEnough · 09/10/2008 01:10

No idea what feltching is either but gathering from this thread it's something rude?

SuperBunny · 09/10/2008 02:08

Felting is sort of shrinking wool til it turns sort of felt like. I accidentally felted my favourite cardy by washing it in the machine

Forget about the other word. I have no idea how I know what it is.

LadyOfWaffleIsScaryEnough · 09/10/2008 02:13

Oh right - why does anyone bother with wool? It itches like crazy and seems a pain in the backside to wash! And it pongs when wet.
