Has anyone got any really wide curtains in the loft that they don't need anymore???

We are moving to a new rental with huge windows.
I can't afford to get new curtains made up for all 10 windows!

They are massive, and too wide for ready made curtains.
I can't sew for toffee.

So if you have any unwanted curtains that are 126" wide or bigger I would be most interested!

I have terrocata pair think each curtain is 72" x 72" (they are the ones you gather at the top so I had each curtain gathered to around 50") and cushions that you can have FFP but not sure if that'll work, they are lined and were just hung as 'decoration' as we have blinds so never pull the curtains

Thanks! Will just put kids to bed and then check the measurements I took today.

You could just buy several sets of ready made curtains?

Spagblog · 03/10/2008 20:58

I thought about that - do you mean sewing two together to make each side? Would that work?

eandh - the only room that would fit would be DS's and its blue - do you think terracota would go with blue?

Terracotta & blue are fine in theory

You wouldn't need to sew them together just hang them together

What drop are you?
What is the actual width of the windows?

Spagblog · 03/10/2008 21:13

The ones in the main room are both 126 inches wide and the drops are 96 and 58

In our bedroom we have 132" wide by 52 long and 82" wide by 52 long

There are lots more including a real pain of a window that is 141" wide!

Which size window for eandh's curtains?

I think if you can afford them lots of readymades at each window

Spagblog · 03/10/2008 22:01

DS's window is 108" wide by 60" drop

We went and had a quotation for the windows in the main room and they told us it would cost over £1000 . I said "Take a zero off that and I might consider it!"

Silly - go to ikea or a fabric warehouse

Buy off the peg cheap as possible

If you want to spend money spend on linings

This is a rental isn't it? How long are you staying?

Do you have curtain rails up?

Sheets make good curtains - are the windows double glazed?

KatyMac · 03/10/2008 22:04

You need 3 m wide by 2.6m drop (ish - do check)

KatyMac · 03/10/2008 22:05

2 sets of these ??

KatyMac · 03/10/2008 22:07

These look a bit nicer?

Spagblog · 03/10/2008 22:07

Oooh Ikea - I am trying to convince DH that it would be a worthwhile excursion!

OP posts:
Spagblog · 03/10/2008 22:11

So - excuse me for being slow - I would need to buy two pairs of the ikea ones and sew them together...yup?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 03/10/2008 22:11

remember if you are 3m wide you need minimum of 4.5m width to allow for gather & the more the better

KatyMac · 03/10/2008 22:12

I wouldn't sew the together - just pull them across

Eddas · 03/10/2008 22:18

our windows are really wide well each room has 2 windows but it'd look stupid to have anything other than one curtain pole and one set of curtains at each IYSWIM. Have you looked at places likee Next? I think they do wide curtains I'm trying to find some that are wide but short for our front room. it's a nightmare unless you want to spend fortunes and I don't want to and can't afford too!

Spagblog · 03/10/2008 22:51

Woohoo, Elmet curtains do wide ready made curtains!
