Should we get a new boiler?

Ours is 8-10 years old and rated a G for efficiency. Takes ages for water to get hot (it's a combination boiler)

DH thinks we should replace it now. I think we should hang on another couple of years until it stops working, given how expensive it is to replace (approx 2k).

Any advice? And does a new boiler actually keep a house warmer?

A newer boiler will be more efficient and would cost less to run in the end...

I am sure with the credit crunch and the financial stresses, there will be lots of wiggle room to get a competitive quote to replace...

given high prices for fuel these days I would go for the new boiler now rather than later because it will cost less to run.

As far as keeping the house warmer - no - that depends on the thermostat setting - but it will do it for less fuel and hence less money.

Also - it may not be that easy to get a boiler engineer to fit a new one when the old one breaks down - then you risk a period with no hot water.
