Help - my chopping boards are smelly

They are those white plastic-y ones that are supposedly hygienic. They smell disgusting though!

Do I need to discard them?

Or is there something I can clean them with?

If I discard them, what's a good replacement?

Thank you!

I wash and anti-bac spray them for so long but Tesco value chopping boards are something like 90odd pence each so I just keep replacing them.

We put ours into the dishwasher, every time we use one.

CherryChapstick · 26/09/2008 21:13

They are good, but have you been putting it away damp?
Have you got a dishwasher?
I always put mine in the DW.
If not, cut a lemon in half and rub the raw edge over the surface, let dry, should smell much better.

soak them in bicarb overnight.

They should be fab and odour free by the next morning.

i use glass ones. then dishwash them.

Or put them in the sink, fill the sink with hot water and bleach.

Thanks everyone.
We don't have a dishwasher
I will try the lemon and/or bicarb trick. And next time will buy glass ones.
