Calling all Delia-types - do sponge cakes freeze well?

It's my ds's birthday soon and he has decided he'd like to bake his own cake!!! I'm wondering if it's worth baking them in advance (he needs two - friends party and family party) as we'll be really busy in the days leading up to his birthday. Do sponge cakes freeze well?

Thanks. x
