Can anyone recommend a good vacuum cleaner?

I bought one recently that's supposed to be ideal for pet hair but it's about as much good as a chocolate teapot! I've hoovered today, the floor's still covered in dog and cat fur and the vacuum's overheated

I love my Sebo - very light and efficient. So good my cleaner bought herself one after using mine.

However, the cottage we stayed in for summer hols had a Henry, and I was really impressed. Phenomenal suction - I remember reading they are the vacuum of choice for builders, and I see why now.
