ds1 left leather school shoes out in rain for 2 hours - can I tumble dry them?

Fecity feck feck. ds1 threw his shoes onto the front path/drive in a temper at teatime and I forgot about them (despite asking him to bring them in). Since then it has rained constantly for 2 hours and have just remembered about them. They're soaking wet and currently on top of a radiator. Can I put them in the tumble dryer on a low heat setting for a while to get rid of some of the water??????? Thye are leather Start-rite ones?? Please someone???? It's only been one day at school and already there's mayhem!

I wouldn't, but if you do make sure you treat them with loads of leather care stuff afterwards. Saying that, the radiator is also horrendous for leather, so it's probably much the same.

Best way to dry leather is to stuff with newspaper, changing it regularly for dry newspaper, and let dry naturally.

I wouldn't tumble dry.

Stuff them with scrunched up paper, to help dry out. After about 30 mins on radiator (switched on!) remove the paper and replace with fresh paper. After another 60 mins or so remove the paper again and the insides should be pretty much dry by then.

Does he have any other shoes for tomorrow?!

Put them in the airing cupboard to dry, then polish them like crazy.

hopefully is right. Keep stuffing with newspaper and maybe put them in the airing cupboard overnight if you have one.
I would take the cost of a renovating leather treatment out of his pocket money!

Thank you - off to find paper - no he doesn't have other shoes. (with him not you btw!!)
