Killing germs on carpet? What can I use?

Hello. I my cats have brought in a mouse and it has been spread everywhere and is gross. I have an 8 month old DD who crawls everywhere and I am worried bout her being on that carpet and I am a childminder too.

What can I use to disinfect the carpet? I need to kill all the germs really. It is a rented house so worried about ruining the carpet.

Any ideas?

steam it...think that is the best way with carpets...

Steaming would kill germs but TBH all you need is for it to be clean - there are germs on the carpet, on your furniture, everywhere anyway - especially as you have cats. Just get it clean so that you can no longer see the muck and that will be enough, honestly.
