How do you clean copper?

I have just bought a gorgeous old copper coffee pot that I want to just sit in the corner looking decorative but have no idea how to clean it as it is filthy with dirt and age i think - any ideas....

really. was reading all sorts of recipes involvoin baking powder lemon vinegar etc but that sounds so much easier....
