Opps - burn on gooseberries. How do I clean the pan?

I left some gooseberries stewing whilst I was on MN yesterday, and needless to say 90min later they were burn on solid!
Most of the burnt on bits have come off, but am having trouble with the last bits. Is there something I can boil up in the pan to help get it off - I vaguely remember reading it somewhere but can't remember what it was. It is a stainless steel apn so ne worry about a non-stick lining.
Any suggestions gratefully received...

Put salt on the burnt bits and leave overnight?

I use Cif on any really grim pan debris. Then give it a wash in washing-up liquid as usual.

I did exactly this!

Put water in teh pan and reboil

leave to soak in sink overnight

put fairy power spray on and leave all day

scrub

boil

it went in the end.

Another good tip - about 1/2 inch of water in the pan, squirt in bleach and then boil. It will shift the burnt on mess. Then just wash as normal.
