stone vs ceramic tiles

apart from teh obvious cost, what are the pros and cons?

do stone tiles last well? do they need special cleaning materials, or general care or maintenance? are they porous? will they absorb stains etc?

just don't want to be left with a nightmare if I blow my budget to get the look I want and end up with stuff that looks horrible in no time at all

Ceramic can be slippery, no idea if this is true of stone too. Ds had the back of his head glued at A&E when he fell over in the bathroom.
