Crikey....didnt expect such a response!!

Thanks for all the advice - will try and take it out and give it a good scrub. I am planning to use bleach...good idea or not?

I am rather at it having gotten quite so revoltingly filthy before I noticed!

I use powder, but it's still manky from time to time. I just wash most of it off in hot water with a toothbrush (bleach is fine btw), then stick it in the dishwasher. You could put bleach in the drawer as part of an empty cycle, or with old white towels etc to clean the washing machine.

I put my machine on a boil wash with powder in once a month - when I used cloth nappies more often I didn't have the problem as I did more 60 degree washes. Now mainly 30 or 40.

I put dishwasher cleaner bottles in the dishwasher about once a month. It's so sparkly afterwards . I also clean the sides of the door etc as they get really grimy.

[must get a life emoticon]

Once you've removed the drawer, remember to clean the inside. Now that's the really horrid bit. I spray lots of bleach inside once I've finished to kill any remaining nasties!

I had an engineer to fix the pump on mine, and he recommended putting the soap drawer in the dishwasher. It does work, but I didn;t fancy all that gunk on my plates, so I put it in when the washer was having it's -annual- monthly clean.
Now all I need to know is can I put the dishwasher filters in the washing machine?

LOL @ Kewcumber. I think I'm going to send Anthea Turner to her house. I've a feeling she's go down like a lead balloon @ chez Kew

Did you know that the lint you collect from the tumble dryer is ideal material for lining birds nests with? [geek emoticon]

I dont know where you're supposed to leave it though.

Poor Kewcucumber. It's been like a virtual Kim and Aggie. My dishwasher got so filthy once it was washing the dishes with bits of old food. Blerg. Never again.

Kewcumber · 18/07/2008 08:46

dear god there's a website that explains how to wash a soap drawer in a washing machine.

Is this an elaborate hoax?

chocbutton · 18/07/2008 09:44

oooh no KC! the website tells you all sorts of useful stuff about all appliances - I am sure I got the address from another MN once. Tells you how to fix things, get rid of horrid smells, mouldy bits etc - not just on washing machines but loads of other stuff as well - go on, have a look, it really isn't that scary

take it out and scrub it.
