Kenwood or Kitchen Aid?

Which would you go for? I think the Kitchen Aid is prettier but it's a lot more expensive than the basic Kenwood. Nigella has a Kitchen Aid.....please help me decide (and persuade dh)

don't listen to the Kenwood posse NL, you have made the right choice

Golly - it's a bit two tribes going to war here isn't it!

Nigella has one For the TV. Bet you she and her staff do their Real Cooking with a Kenwood.

blowsy · 04/07/2008 22:58

la la la not listening!!

NorthernLurker · 04/07/2008 23:00

She does say it's indispensable to her in her book

4! Brilliant - i made one last night and was muttering to dh as I did it 'this would be so much easier if I had a KitchenAid!'

It has ears??!! Dear God - blowsy has a house elf and thinks it's a mixer!!

liath · 04/07/2008 23:02

PMSL!

NorthernLurker · 04/07/2008 23:02

Of course it will have ears - why doesn't your Kenwood?

OP posts:
Habbibu · 04/07/2008 23:04

The Kenwood focusses all its attention on producing marvellous food, not listening out for idle gossip and fashion tips.

NorthernLurker · 04/07/2008 23:05

So the Kenwood wouldn't spend it's time on Mumsnet then I better not tell dh - he would love that

Habbibu · 04/07/2008 23:08

The Kenwood would give very sage advice on the Food and Recipes threads, cast a disdainful glance at the KitchenAid blabbering on the Style and Beauty threads and get back to work.

blowsy · 04/07/2008 23:08

I knew you'd fit in NL!

NorthernLurker · 04/07/2008 23:11

I'm off for gateau to bed now. Thanks for the views - I'll update when my wonderful frivelous Nigella embraced beast arrives

Kenwood is much better. Enjoy admiring your Kitchen Aid while its puny little motor struggles to whip cream in the teeny tiny bowl.

Habbibu · 05/07/2008 09:24

All hail Alice Fairfax!

Tinkjon · 05/07/2008 13:58

So which colour did you go for? The classic does come in other colours, btw, not just white.

I luuuuuuuuurve my KitchenAid - almost more than my husband and children, in fact But have a new kitchen since I bought my Artisan so am thinking I need a new one to match my new colours

SqueakyPop · 05/07/2008 14:00

I have a Kenwood Major that my mum gave me and I am very happy with it. It does the job.

I like the idea of the lift system the Kitchenaid has rather than the tilt, though.

Love2bake · 05/07/2008 14:04

You wont be disappointed NL.

I got the classic from Amazon last week....it's beautiful, and I made the BEST Victoria sponge in it.

nooka · 05/07/2008 14:06

I have a Kenwood Major, but boo hoo hoo, we've just moved to the States and it doesn't work anymore... We think it needs more power than the domestic circuits provide here. A kitchen's not a kitchen without a Kenwood IMO. Mine is 15 years old, my mum's is still going strong, and my big sister still uses my granny's one, so they do keep going strong for 40 years plus. I've never heard of a kitchen aid though, so in RL they are obviously inferior...
