Miele Vacuum Recommendations please 🙏🏼

after years of fighting with our cordless shark I’ve decided to give up and try a Miele.

We have a large busy house with children and pets and I would love recommendations for which model to go for? Bagged vs bagless etc?

Bagged, the more expensive ones you are paying for the electric controls over manual ones if they are all the same power size.

If you large house is flat eg without steps between rooms then look at a robot vac. It’s a game changer. We have one upstairs and one downstairs, both go out everyday

I have a Miele C3 which you can only get 2nd hand now. It's been superceded by the Guard series. So look for that one. It has bags (buy compatible ones on amazon) and filters and does a great job with pet hair (and long hair when we had children at home).

This:

Am on my third - since 1991. I had something else for a while but hated it. Probably not all C3 Cat and Dog but that genre.

Use bags. Pick up in JL when I visit.

We are on our 2nd Miele in 22 years, the cat and dog model, with a bag. Sometimes I get annoyed dragging it around but it’s much better than any cordless vacuum I’ve used and they seem to go forever.

I've had the Cat and dog one since 2014 and would get another one if this broke

I used to clean for my neighbour who had this machine and was amazed at the suction lifting the carpet. I usually buy bags on offer but recently bought generic bags and they seem fine

I keep threatening to take it to work as we have a rubbish one there

I also have had cat & dog ones 😆 current one is 11 years and the builders were so impressed with it.

I’m interested too…we have a Sebo upright and it’s 20 odd years old and amazing…but our new home has all stone/hard floors…it’s not what the Sebo does best.

I was considering a Miele after a friend raved about them….but on asking her it turned out she’s had 4 Miele vacuums in the time we’ve had the Sebo and she’s now changed to a Shark because she felt that the Miele didn’t cope well with long hair. Shark has an anti hair wrap thing apparently.

Do any Miele fans have this problem? Have your Miele cleaners lasted well? I’m hoping for a decent product lifespan and I’ve got long hair!

I have very long hair and had 4 DDs at home until recently all with long hair at various points. It’s 11 years and going strong, DH regularly cuts the hair off the power brush tool. If you have hard floors I don’t think you need the turbo brush thing?

I would get the one without the electric controls as then it’s only the motor that can die.

We recently renovated and bought miele appliances. I'm currently looking at their vacuums too. If you have a blue light card, ring them and you get 20% full priced products (not outlet). They also have an outlet store. The pricelist changes daily, so once you've narrowed down your choices, have a look on there.

You can buy a hard floor head separately for a Miele that has just brushes and no roller. I use mine everywhere, works fine on carpet too.

Thanks all, ordered the Gaurd M1 cat & dog. Can’t wait for delivery now!

@MamaBobo I will confess to owning 3 Miele hoovers! The first is over 20 years old and I now use it to hoover up the crap that gets under the garage door and for when I'm sanding. We owned a restaurant and the original Miele went to work there for 4 years so I bought number 2 (the newer model) for home. We sold the restaurant and bought a shop. First Miele went there. Then we bought another restaurant so Miele 2 went to work there. So I bought Miele 3 (identical to 2) for home. In 2022 we sold both the shop and the restaurant so Miele 1 and 2 came home! Miele 2 lives upstairs and Miele 3 lives downstairs. Miele 2 was bought in 2012 and Miele 3 in 2018. They last!

I have a selection of additional heads for them too. We have a lot of wood and tiles so have the parquet floor head which is a brush, no roller. I also have a 'turbo brush' which is a roller brush, excellent for rugs and carpet. They came with the standard head which you can use on carpet or 'hard' floors and I use that for really short pile carpet.

I am not the Miele superfan I once was because their current dishwasher is utter crap compared to the previous 20 year old one. Having been repaired 3 times in the first 4 months if its life I made their lives uncomfortable until they replaced it. Although this one works it still feels cheap and nasty (it wasn't cheap) and doesn't wash as well as I'd like. Their washing machines (entry level) are still excellent in my opinion. (My oven and tumble dryer are both over 20!)

Oldraver · 17/10/2026 17:08

I have had to replace the turbo head twice (recent one a few weeks ago) so twice in 12 years. You do have to cut the hair out of the brushes but OH does that.
