mice - what to do?

we've got these brazen little blighters that eschew the poison boxes we put down for them in favour of god knows what crumbs are left behind by our two littl'uns ... ugh. Last straw was this morning when one turned up in our bedroom ... no food is ever allowed in the bedrooms, so god knows what it was doing there.

DH says that a cat is the only soltion but I am a) not fond of cats b) not fond of pets c) can't bear animals indoors and d) reluctant to take on the care of something when my hands are already full with dd, almost 2 and ds, 7 months.

Is a cat really the only solution??

I'd buy old fashioned mousetraps, load them with chocolate or cake and leave them where obviously the kids can't get them but along skirting boards and things like that.

My mums cat used to bring the mice home as presents for my mum and let them loose for her

we have old fashioned traps - bait with choc raisins

you need to fill in as many access points as possible as they can get in tiny tiny gaps

I've got poison boxes down, because I don't trust the dts not to find the old fashioned traps. It seems to be working, but it's rather unpleasent keep finding dead mice in unexpected places.

I got my sun parasol out when the nice weather started, opened it and a mouse body plopped onto the table.

Agree with filling in access points. Look for chewed up skirting, door frames etc, and find where they are coming in. Mine were in the storeroom rather than the actual house, and had made a big hole in the garden door to enter.
