Dyson

I’m so fed up these days with Dyson. Two year ago i bought a gen5 detect cordless vacuum cleaner. Over the two years I’ve had to buy replacement parts-such as the Motörhead and the filter-more than once, but the things are almost NEVER in stock. Rendering the machine useless, obviously. What an utter rip off, and it cost £800 too! I won’t be buying another. Up yours, Jame Dyson. Be warned, people. You could wait months for parts, so you’ll be needing a spare machine!

I’ve always sworn by Dyson but they don’t seem to last long anymore. Especially for the cost. I won’t buy another after this one. Apparently the cleaners current favourite is a Miele !

Many reasons to dislike Dyson (and before anyone says 'but they would have settled to save costs,' they had deep pockets for four years litigation about whether the claimants were even allowed to bring the claim in the UK) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cddnry8dnl7o

My upright sebo is 17 years old and an absolute workhorse if you want a recommendation.
If you have John Lewis near you go and try some different hoovers.

Why did you need to buy the replacement parts, wasn’t it under warranty/why didn’t Dyson replace them?

mumumental · 29/09/2026 22:32

The first Motorhead was. Not the rest. The issue with the Sebo is that it isn’t cordless. These days I prefer something easy to nip round with. Going and trying a few is good plan though.

@mumumentalim curious about sebo. What model did you get? Not fussed About cordless tbh

mumumental · 30/09/2026 22:22

The Sebo was bought by @Sunshineandrainbow, not me.

My sebo is X4:

The sebo X4 was discontinued in Europe in 2017 because new European Union regulations restricted vacuum cleaner wattage and noise levels.

Sadly it was discontinued, I would replace immediately if it broke with another sebo!

I have a shark that I bought to use downstairs but only used handful of times as it just doesn't compare to the sebo.

MIL’s Dyson packed in yesterday. Needs a new motor part. My Henry is old & going strong!
