What happened to washing powder tablets, not pods?

Any ideas if any still available…I used to like these ones but don’t like pods.

Currently use liquid but pondering a return to old school powder anyway….

Whatever happened to washing powder tablets?

Bosch machine here, the manual recommends liquid for a short wash and powder for a longer one. I use Aldi's own brand for both, can recommend although you probably don't need anywhere like the amount it says on the box (but that could just be my machine?)

@PamelaColmansMustard yes I have a Bosch also and currently use liquid, just fancied the powder in tablet form 🙂

have read good things about Aldi - Almat? - and intend on trying it out 👍

I prefer powder tablets too and the only ones I can get are Persil https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/persil-non-bio-laundry-washing-tablets-20w/651282-132012-132013?srsltid=AfmBOoqwfHb4RlJhThmmQUoERQjRSBL9aEPmbaBithtThT2KB-ykoJZqoM8&gclid=CjwKCAjwtp7VBhBjEiwAJfpV-0dUWCLxSym9sixCMZNMNpSc5xvleIWHeVy9NT8zZ3iS5GoIqPYPxBoCiBgQAvD_BwE I really don't think those pouch ones are good for machines. I make such a mess with boxes of powder as it ends up everywhere.

Persil non bio come in tablets, but that’s all I can find, because I find them useful, especially when the DC come home, as measuring out powder (which I normally use) seems beyond them. I too hate those plastic things, not least because one always seems to break and I end up with a couple of inches of washing swill in the bottom of the plastic tub.

bilbodog · 14/09/2026 11:18

I always use persil non bio.

I prefer the tablets too and can only find Persil non-bio now, they still sell them in Sainsburys.
The next best alternative I have found is the Dr Beckmans laundry detergent sheets. They're even easier to use but go straight in the drum so I like to use soda crystals in the drawer occasionally to keep the pipes clean.

I used to use Aldi Almat powder tablets but they don't seem to do them any more, so I've switched to the boxes of powder.

I love it, don't tend to use the perfumed ones as I don't like them, but the bio liquid and non-bio powder are great. Almat used to have tablets but come to think of it, I've not seen them in ages.

I've not been able to buy aldi tablets for some time either, shame as I really liked them!

I’m struggling to get powder from Sainsbury’s - these pods are all that’s in stock. Hate them. My skin is red raw from having to touch them to remove from the box, rather than just scooping the powder - which was clean and quick. Ugh.
