New vacuum cleaner

Our Shark has broken. I never liked it anyway. We used to have a Dyson but didn’t rate that either. Can anyone recommend a decent vacuum cleaner? Thanks

I love my workhorse Sebo. It's 16 - 18 years old and still incredible

Not much help here but o got one of the better Shark ones and like it so far 1 month in. Was around £250 so not cheap but I like it and charge is pretty decent. We have a Henry too that’s good for a decent clean with Shark as top up. I didn’t rate my last Dyson. I read a lot about Miele on here too

Henry is the only one I've ever found to actually leave the floor clean.

I absolutely hate my bloody shark. The cord and hose are too short ( constantly falls over when using in this mode) the tools fell apart within a few weeks, the rubber bit in front of the bar ripped in a similar time, the so called hair wrap technology doesn’t work, and it’s so bloody heavy. I think a child in a primary school DT class could design something more effective!

Will be following this thread as I want to replace the damn thing!

My shark is the cordless one. I do like it but am reserving judgement and kept the Dyson in case I decide to have it serviced and send to uni with DS

You can't beat a Henry.

Henry, had mine for years, it's brilliant. My only gripe is it's a bit bulky for getting up and down the stairs. My mother has a shark, the handle broke just after it was out of warranty. Not convinced it's that good either but it is lightweight.

Miele cat and dog, mine was about 17 years old and only replaced it with the same one I inherited from my late mum.
I would buy it again.

If you're fed up with Shark and Dyson, bagged models like a Miele, Sebo, or classic Henry last far longer and don't lose suction.
If you ever want to see what holds up best in real homes, asking a local cleaner from MCH for their recommendation is usually a safe bet, as they tend to favor sturdy commercial-grade vacuums like Sebo over trendy cordless ones.

MIele cylinder. Do not pass go. Do not even do any more research just buy one.

I've been a devoted user for more than 20 years. My friend's mum suggested them having just replaced her 25 year old miele for another one. I subsequently converted my parents (now dead - their one is still in use by a friend), my brother and sister and latterly my aunt.

One I bought for a short lived second home is still in use more than a decade later in a friend's house. She bought one for her son's student house last week (actually she might have given him the old one and kept the new one for her house, I didn't ask too many questions!) They just work well and last for ages.

Only tip - get one with on board tool storage.

Another vote for Miele Cat & Dog C3 cylinder. Mine's ancient and still going strong. Before that I seemed to be replacing them every couple of years, but I must have had the Miele for 15 years at this stage. I also have a couple of Vax cordless things and I don't rate them at all.

I lived my Henry but am no longer able to haul it up and downstairs. Plus he kept tipping over anx looking at me with his smiley face.
I felt bad getting rid of him but got a cordless Shark. It's fine but we just have a small house.

I've had loads of vacuums over the years, including Miele cat and dog, shark, Henry, Kirby, Hoover, Vax canister and upright, Gtech, and Dyson. I keep returning to Vax Air stretch pet. Lightweight, cleans well, covers a huge area and lifts pet hair from carpet like nothing else. (Cylinder cleaners without a powered head are particularly poor for this ime)
Not too expensive either.
