Cleaning 90 degree shower drain

My shower has a 90 degree drain and the whole drain runs at quite a shallow angle. The pour down stuff doesn’t really do terribly well as it never covers the entire pipe and liquid only sits in the bottom. Has anyone discovered anything that will do the trick? At the moment I use an old toothbrush and jam that in and wiggle it about to shift gunk. I use a decent hair trap but it seems to be soap and conditioner build up that’s the issue.

We had a similar setup and TBH the only thing that improved it was rerouting the drain. I think it’s the poor fall that is the main problem. Once that had been dealt with the 90deg bend was much easier to clean.

I used to put a couple of those enzyme sticks down the drain every so often. Of course, that means you can’t use any harsh or biocidal cleaners for a week or two while the enzymes break down the slime. I rarely used cleaners, anyway, because of my allergies. I used thin bleach, like Miltons.

Bottle brushes were better for cleaning the L shape than toothbrushes, especially a small jar brush (the sort of bottle brush that has bristles sticking out all over the end, not just along the length).

@PaperPanama Oh for some reason the bottle brush hadn’t occurred to me! Rerouting isn’t an option so I’ll give that a whirl.
