Breadbins

What's the best sort of breadbin for preventing bread going mouldy for as long as possible? My breadmaker loaves seem to turn much too quickly. Thanks.

Is there a reason you don’t want to put it in the fridge?

The freezer. Homemade bread doesn't last long because of the lack of preservatives. We cut ours in half, and put one half in the freezer which we get out when the first half is used up.

I have a Brabantia stainless steel one and it seems fine. But homemade bread is never going to last as long as highly processed bread as you're not using a preservative.

I've got a white enamel one with blue BREAD on it. I love it and didn't lose any bread to mould over the extremely hot weather.

It’s where people put things when they don’t want them to go mouldy 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Putting bread in the fridge makes it go stale faster, oddly, because the cold makes the starches crystallise more quickly.
I slice bread and freeze it, because freezing stops that process, and when it’s sliced, you can get out however many slices you want at the time.

I have one of those pre war enamel bread bins too, and I find that it keeps bread quite well, in the short term.
