Perhaps your little boy could pee sitting down. Think all males should to avoid all the disgusting mess left by peeing everywhere when standing up.
Try vinegar and soapy water, mild bleach or zoflora.

If urine has run down the outside of the toilet it’s likely to have got under any flooring you have, so will be very hard to get rid of I’m afraid.
Make sure he can reach into the toilet easily, use a step if needed. He needs training!

How old is he? Does he need a step? If he’s incapable of weeing standing up to and making such a mess that your normal bathroom spray can’t handle it he needs to sit down and/or be closely supervised in the toilet. What about public toilets, school/nursery, other people’s houses etc. - it isn’t ok for him to just wee everywhere and mummy cleans it up unless we’re talking about a 2YO in their first week of potty training (then I’d be applauding any attempt to get to the loo!) but if that’s the case a regular bathroom cleaner should be fine as presumably you’re monitoring him so are there to clean it up straight away? It’s only dried on piss that stinks.

This. Plus, lime and cleaner residue can smell a lot like urine so you may have to remove the toilet seat and the handle and clean those, periodically. Make sure you're cleaning under the rim by using bleach, a glove and a sponge with a scratchy bit. The cleaner sticks will work, in the interim, but I find the toilets need a good, deep clean at least bi-weekly.

Maybe try Dr Beckmann's pet odour remover? Seems to work on human urine (don't ask me how I know). Widely available in supermarkets.

Apparently shaving foam is excellent for this

I second pet urine odour remover. Or a biological laundry cleaner

I don't know why males are brought up to believe they stand up waving their penis round spraying urine anywhere other than the bowl and then women are there waiting to clean it up?

You sit when you pee. Otherwise it's disgusting.

Just get him to wee sitting down and save yourself and any future partners of his a lifetime of annoyance. Men only need to stand up at urinals, domestic toilets are not designed for it.

ping pong balls in the loo basin
a step
dettol

No need for any of that, just pee sitting down

Try the pet odour cleaner as others have suggested. Also encourage your boy to sit down to wee instead. My sister had three boys and eventually had to have the whole of her bathroom floor taken up and replaced as the floorboards were soaked through.

You need to find a cleaner that contains the enzyme that breaks down urine. One of my cats kept weeing in the same spot and no matter how many times I cleaned the carpet, I couldn't get rid of the smell (meaning he kept going there 🙄)

I used Bactador enzyme cleaning spray (available on Amazon) and it's been really good and I don't think the cat has revisited the spot. But other similar sprays are available and should do the same job, providing it contains the relevant enzyme.

QueenOfTheWasps · 14/08/2026 14:22

You can use Simple Solution which is for cat pee. Also works on human pee - as I found out when cleaning up after dribbly FIL and his friend.

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 14/08/2026 17:05

@Nik2879try some pet products which are designed to deal with dog wee.

Wells37 · 14/08/2026 17:15

Definitely pet cleaning products. I got some from pets at home for cleaning up pet urine. I used it all around our toilet.
Scrub absolutely everything then spray the pet spray (enzyme one) and leave it for a bit. Then try and teach him to aim, but in my experience it takes blooming ages!

alseb · 16/08/2026 22:01

I too recommend Bactador from Amazon
You need something with enzymes to break down the urine

ExOptimist · 16/08/2026 22:05

I taught my son to sit down to wee, he did that till he was about 10 or 11 from what I remember.
