How can I remove bits trapped in a sherpa blanket?

I have a sherpa style blanket that I love using when watching tv but even after washing the sherpa side of it is still full of random bits of everything and I can feel them scratching me. I do fold it over to the smoother side but it's annoying. Is there any way of getting all the crud out of it?

Maybe a go in the tumble dryer?

I was going to follow because I’d love to hear suggestions! I wondered about brushing it - I’ve had some success with a fabric comb designed to remove bobbles/pilling although I’m sure the Sherpa blanket will get thinner over time as a lot comes off.
