Please help me with this stain!

I am hoping someone can help with a mystery stain. It has appeared recently and I don't know what it is - it is on the sleeve of a fabulous UV shirt that is obviously very useful right now! It looks like coffee/tea but I have no idea!

I have washed in the machine using stain treatment first - no effect.
I have tried washing up liquid and soaking - no effect.

The shirt doesn't look like it, but is 87% cotton, 10% Hemp, 3% Yak (!).

Could it be blood? Maybe from a scratch you’ve forgotten about? Try spitting on it and rubbing gently

Thanks for your reply. It does look a bit like blood too - but there is nothing on my arm in that area. Tried what you suggested - not budging.

Surgical spirit is good for unknown stains - just dab a bit around the edge and see what happens - good luck

Oh okay - will try. I have been scrubbing in with Pink Stuff - its a bit faded but still there!

Put it in the sun and it will fade - works amazingly well.

Is white spirit similarly effective as surgical spirit? I am also battling a stain on one of my favourite blouses - except I know it was foundation. Someone suggested acetone/nail varnish remover, so I’m planning to try this. Maybe it might work on blood too?

Hang it out in the sun. Leave it there until the stain has gone. It might take a week.

It looks like an oxidised stain. They are a pain to remove as you can damage the fabric with the very thing that removes the stain.
A pp has mentioned sunshine. Yes this will help fade it. Try some lemon juice on it with some salt dusted on top and then lay in the sun. Rinse throughly after an hour or so then wash normally & dry outside.

Have you tumble dried it? This may have unfortunately set the stain in that case.
If it’s a really loved shirt then a dry cleaner may be able to help for ££
The kind of chemicals that are professionally used to remove stains are not generally available for domestic use (at least not at the effective strength)

Thanks everyone for the ideas - I am going to try surgical spirit and then lemon juice, salt and sun! Well I would but after sunny days for weeks there is only cloud!
