HELP! How can I remove a strong garlic smell from velvet sofas?

Something I've cooked in the last fortnight has made my kitchen / sitting room sofas absolutely reek of garlic!! It's awful. It's so strong.

They're velvet needle cord.

What can I do to rid them of the pong?

I can get them professionally cleaned by an upholstery cleaner - is there anything I can try myself instead or in the meantime?

A couple of options: lightly sprinkle bicarb on the sofas, leave them for a while and the. Vacuum off OR put some vodka in a misting bottle and give them a light misting.

Are you sure it isn't a gas leak?
