Because if it doesn't I'm stuffed

Kbear · 24/06/2008 21:37

you have to clean them?

KatyMac · 24/06/2008 21:38

Apparently yes

Kbear · 24/06/2008 21:40

well it doesn't say so the outside so mine must be different.

twelveyeargap · 24/06/2008 21:40

is it that Oven Pride stuff? It's really good. Leave it overnight and turn the bag over every so often to keep coating the racks in the bag.

Kbear · 24/06/2008 21:40

I suppose now I have to ask... what is the bag thing?

Kbear · 24/06/2008 21:40

ah, I see!!

KatyMac · 24/06/2008 21:47

It seems to be working

Maybe

Well it is on the metal bits & the glass - but the oven walls are not looking so hot

i'm avoiding my ovan, let me know if it works i could do with the bag thing too

KatyMac · 25/06/2008 12:10

The metal bits & glass are fab

but tbh the oven walls are very poor

If you haven't cleaned the oven in ages, it might need a second go. At least Oven Pride doesn't reek like the spray on foamy stuff.

Aefondkiss · 26/06/2008 18:08

I know it might seem a bit worthy, but if the bag thing(never heard of it) doesn't work, scooshing vinegar then dusting over the oven with bicarb and leaving over night does the trick on mine, though I tend to go for the really eco friendly option of never cleaning it - which I am sure, someone is going to tell me isn't eco friendly

bigknickersbigknockers · 26/06/2008 18:11

Is there a lot of faffing involved when using "the bag thing" katy? I bought that stuff months ago but never got round to using it and the glass door is disgusting. Maybe I shall finally get round to doing it!

So how does the bag thing work with the sides and glass???

Aefondkiss · 26/06/2008 18:14

Katymac is it working ? the blurb says -

"If your oven racks don't look like new after using Oven Pride, our Managing Director said he'll clean them himself! (How's that for confidence?)"

cleaning the oven is my least favourite job. Stumbled over a top tip tho... I'd made a meatloaf and sat the tin in a roasting tin of water. Decided to give the oven a quick wipe when I took the meatloaf out and the steam had loosened a lot of the grease and grime. So I always stick a roasting pan of water in the oven for an hour or so before cleaning and it is easier. Intrigued to hear how the bag works tho.

SlightlyMadSweet · 26/06/2008 18:19

TY.

Adds it to Tesco list...

KatyMac · 26/06/2008 18:33

My glass comes out - so went in the bag

The shelves & glass were perfect - the grill bit was not as good - but DH gave it a going over with a brillo pad & it's fine

The sides & top were imo very poor, but the bottom was fine

So I guess getting enough on the sides & top is the issue

SlightlyMadSweet · 26/06/2008 18:46

My sides are self cleaning...so not aproblem.

Tis the bottom, door and shelves which are an issue - so sounds perfect.

girlandboy · 26/06/2008 19:59

Coincidence - I've just cleaned my oven today with the bag thing as well. I am now the proud owner of an oven that looks like new. The bag sprang a leak though. Good old Oven Pride.
Trouble is, now I want to keep it like that.
Lilolil - I'll try the steamy method. Sounds good.
Also has anyone got one of those small hand-held steamers. They're meant to be good for cleaning your oven. Has anyone tried it??

ManxMum · 26/06/2008 20:19

I used one of those horrible spray thingys and it has messed up the thermostat in the oven, and the floor of the grill has developed a hole!!

I use a steam cleaner, too much faffing about imo, steamy pan sounds good, it works in mikerowaves a treat!

Do you think DH will accept the 'I don't clean the oven because I don't want to break it' argument?

Wisteria · 26/06/2008 20:22

Can you buy them from the supermarket??

BrownSuga · 26/06/2008 20:24

you need ovenmate from lakeland. brush on, leave several hours, wipe off, repeat on stubborn bits. is really good, and i DETEST cleaning ovens.

it's amazing
