I need an amazing iron

Please help ! I spent a fortune on a Tefal steam generator iron which constantly poos brown water over my white ironing - to the extent that neither DH or I or my new cleaner can reliably use it.
I am looking for something else that is just consistent, easy to use and not as expensive.
Love the idea of cordless but no idea if they are reliable enough to get through a set of super king bed linen.
can anyone give me a recommendation and save me wasting more money ?

Suspect it’s more about your water than the iron and spending more money might not help. Have you tried using boiled water? Empty the iron after each use otherwise it just gets clogged up.

It will probably be the water. Try descaling the iron and after that use distilled water.
I don't use the steam function on my iron, I use a hand spray

Oh dear - this thread reminds me that one day I will have to buy a new iron. Mine was M&S (possibly Autograph or equivalent) in 2009. The only time it has misbehaved was when I had the brilliant idea of adding some essential oil to the water compartment. Hmm Other than that it’s been perfect in both soft and hard water areas. And I steam everything that can take a high temperature.

Sorry, @Seriouslyoverit - maybe not helpful. But yes, check whether yours needs descaling. And keep the temperature up for steaming.

Thanks all , I have tried descaling it and it has never been reliable. To be honest I wonder if it was faulty as it has done it from day one . I just want a basic reliable iron.

When my lovely bosch died, last year, I replaced jt with a steam generator that I just plain hated. It was supposedly light but poorly balanced and made my hands hurt, anyway and it was so hard to iron with as it got nowhere near hot enough. I gave up and went back to searching for a normal iron and ended up with a £50 Philips - not too heavy for my poor wrists and decent long cable. I do a lot of sewing so it gets a lot of use.
