Help! white trousers disaster

Darmont · 24/06/2026 13:56

Son has just come back from Uni with a beautiful pair of white linen trousers, that he loves for special occasions.
He had a stain on the front so I sprayed it with Oxy Active whites stain remover. Stain disappeared, so I rinsed and hung on line.
Today I've noticed the trousers are all yellow where the spray has been.
Anyone know of this can be removed. I feel so bad!!

Is it work soaking them all in the stain remover so they are the same colour?

Allseeingallknowing · 24/06/2026 13:57

Try elbow grease cleaner- it works for many stains, or try soaking in Napisan solution

An idea yes but he doesn't want cream / yellow trousers🙈

Hi OP, do nothing for now.
Do you know what the original stain was?
It's most likely that the oxygen Active has whitened and brightened the area around the stain rather than removing it, the sun has made it look like the stain has gone.

What was the stain, that will impact what you do next

And if all fails you could dye them

Sprig1 · 24/06/2026 15:15

Try leaving them hanging in the sun for a few days. It will likely disappear.

Thank you guys! I have put it in powdered vanish this is the second night. Going to see how it is tomorrow and hang out to dry in the sun for a while. Will report back.

Yes I thought of that, he may have to!

Quick update... Delighted as after 2 days in powdered Vanish oxy, and a wash in machine, the yellow has gone. Won't be using whites spray on white trousers again, and if I do, will be thoroughly rinsing afterwards.

Great news OP!
I think the key takeaway is to make sure the spray is washed out thoroughly before pinning out, possibly the sun could have reacted to the chemicals, but I wondered when I read your post if you had done more than just a quick rinse.
Vanish oxy works really well!👍

You need to do a proper wash after using stain remover, not just rinse them.

Don't do what I did.. as a student I soaked my white stuff in bleach. It all fell apart. All my nice white things 😭
