Marks in washing machine ....

Any idea on what these marks are? I cleaned the machine on hot wash with soda crystals as the machine didn't smell very good. Wondering if something is wrong with machine as I have cleaned it multiple times and it still doesn't smell 'clean' and now these marks are left after a hot cycle. Usually the drum is shiny. Laundry is coming out smelling ok but not usual freshness. Machine filter is clean and clear, same for drawer and seal. Can't work out what's going on

I’ve had this with washing soda - it’s like it loosened up all the grime but not cleaning it away. We have very hard water so the only thing that makes the drum shiny again is a cup of citric acid in a really hot wash.

We also have really hard water. I'll clean it again with machine cleaner on hot wash but this seems ridiculous. I've thoroughly cleaned it, can't work out why it smells stale and my clothes aren't smelling fresh. Maybe heating element has gone on it so it's just cold water?!
