Where can I buy a nice drinks cabinet?

I desperately need something with doors I can put our drinks in, it's currently on a lovely victorian drinks trolley, but ds keeps pulling all the bottles off. It needs to be a freestanding cabinet or small sideboard, only about 80cm wide to fit in a small gap. I found one on the Debenhams website but they have messed me about so much that it's now out of stock. I want to spend about £400. I've looked in lots of the usual places, Ikea, Heals, Habitat, M&S and now I'm struggling....

Try lots road auction house.

HeadFairy · 23/06/2008 11:39

That's a good idea, I saw a lovely antique chest in the market along my road but it was a bit too wide. I'd love something a bit different, I was looking on the high street for sheer ease, but perhaps I need to get off my behind and find something a bit more unique.

ebay usually has a host of drinks cabinets, albeit retro or antique

OKA? Lombok? I am not posh enough to have a drinks' cabinet! Luckily I have a utility room as big as my kitchen - that is the drinks' cabinet!

PersephoneSnape · 23/06/2008 13:10

i got a drinks cabinet from freecycle at the weekend - it looks like a bureau, has a lockable cabinet underneath and pulls out to have a mirrored shelf and space for two decanters and glasses etc. it had the original lemon knife, spoon, cocktail sticks etc (all with a little cockerel on the head) - it's absolutely lovely - it has an inscribed plate with 'wedding present for mr and mrs something on the occasion of their wedding, 1938.

i absolutely liove it to pieces and will try and get decanters/niceglasses etc from charity shops.

i know this doesn't help, but i like to boast (...)and it's a good example of what is out there if you have a fish about. good luck head fairy - have a good look, i'm sure you'll find something lovely!

Persephone - I am

Troutpout · 23/06/2008 13:26

Where are you based?

HeadFairy · 25/06/2008 13:03

Sorry about the absemce... so much work to do at the moment! I'm based in South West London...

I love the sound of your one persephone, I might have to have a bit of a surf.

HF Great ideas thanks. We're not posh either but but ds keeps getting all our booze out and I think we'll get much disapproval if anyone comes round to our house to find ds grinning and holding a large bottle of Bacardi ! Luckily he hasn't worked out how to get the tops off yet, or I'd teach him how to mix a proper G&T

Look on ebay for an antique chiffonier

You can pick them up pretty cheap at the moment and they should increase in value eventually

CountessDracula · 25/06/2008 13:08

this is fun look at pix!

HeadFairy · 25/06/2008 13:28

that is quite nice countessdracula, sadly it's too wide, I've only got a teeny gap of about 80cms (90 at a push). I'll have a look around on ebay, can you believe it, I've never bought anything on ebay? I'm such and old luddite!

i asked where you are based because they have some lovely small retro colonial/travel style drinks cabinets in a store near here which i saw recently.
They have a rather limited website and the cabinets aren't on it
Here:
here

but perhaps you could mail for a brochure or something

HeadFairy · 25/06/2008 15:32

a bit too far for me to go there, but I might see if they'll deliver to London and if they do I'll request a brochure. Thanks troutpout
