My boys love it and it is so healthy but aside from high cost the nestle issue is a biggie

Have looked and seem unable to find unbranded version.

If you have found one and tried it - is it nice!?

thanks

...but did anyone read article in the grauniad last weekend re breakfast cereals? better value and more healthy to eat porridge or wholemeal bread. With milk, I suppose. More food value in the box than the cereals, if they didn't add vitamins etc!

PuppyMonkey · 23/06/2008 21:41

Don't those grannys knit shredded wheat...?

FrannyandZooey · 23/06/2008 21:42

sorry, there was a similar thread recently and the sainsburys shredded wheat are also nestle IIRC
will check for you

ButterflyMcQueen · 23/06/2008 21:49

well I can';t blinking find it
someone linked to a fab page which listed all own brands made by nestle as well as the usual suspects
but my search skills are crap tonight

LazyLinePainterJane · 23/06/2008 21:50

We have not managed to fond a non-nestle non-mini shredded wheat either, DH has been searching for months.

FrannyandZooey · 23/06/2008 21:51

ha HA

FrannyandZooey · 23/06/2008 21:53

I reckon nestle are the only people making this product

have you tried other healthy cereals eg kallo puffed rice, or things like unprocessed oats and cereal flakes from somewhere like suma or other ethical brand?

ButterflyMcQueen · 23/06/2008 21:57

yes but for ease and with a ly of children i tend to stick to oats weetabix or branflakes

only recently discovered shredded wheat and youngers loving them

shame!

thanks franny for being so clever!

My favurite breakfast is cold apple and blackberry crumble, just have to settle for sainsbury fruit museli most mornings though

After boycotting Nestlé coffee at Irish Childbirth Trust coffee mornings and as many of their products as possible, Shredded Wheat was the one I found difficult to find an alternative for. Kelloggs make mini wheats in various flavours but I still miss the big pillows!

Gosh- I was so intrigued I had to open this... and was Shock

Where are y'all? [wails]

hazymum- no idea how you found this thread, but it gave me a laugh. Making your own shredded wheat is hardcore even for MNers!

HAZYmum · 02/10/2014 13:51

Lidl own brand Crownfield mini wheats in plain, apricot, and blueberry. Boycotting Nestlé but really missing the large pillows they make - even their own mini wheats don't taste like those.

LindseyandMatthew · 04/10/2014 19:49

Aldi do their own too and they are nice

Penfold007 · 04/10/2014 20:44

In the UK no one make an own brand shredded wheat option. Mini wheats or shreddies are available but not the big 'pillows' of wheat.

In the USA there is an alternative to Nestle but that doesn't help.

So who has a recipe?
