Cleaning old tablecloths and cushions

Any tips on cleaning old embroidered tablecloths and embroidered cushions, please? I tried to hand-wash a tablecloth in ice cold water with a drop of Fairy liquid by hand, and there are big great bleed marks from the colour of the thread? Will the same happen to the old cushion covers? Will they bleed? How do I wash them, please? Thank you.

Test the colour will hold first - blot a bright bit of the embroidery from a corner with a spare bit of white cloth. If all good, submerge in tepid water with very very mild soap, and gently agitate the entire thing - don’t fold or wring. Rinse in fresh water again with mild agitation. Dry flat on a towel with another towel to blot.

Re your name - I recall my granny washing v traditional and beautifully embroidered ceili dresses a million years ago - do not know where those ended up …

I was always told cold water and a tiny bit of traditional soap eg Marseille Olive or vegetable oil soap.
In use this method for all my jumpers.
re the colour running I’m not sure.
