Pine drawers

Does anyone else get this - we have some nice chest of drawers that are pine with an antique oak kind of stain, very solidly built and quite sentimental so a bit reticent to part with them. But the clothes come out smelling fusty. Anything that is worn regularly seems ok, but any longer than a couple of weeks and they smell funky.

Has anyone else had this? Any ideas of how to rectify it?

Alternatively any suggestions for a study chest of drawers where the clothes won’t smell funky?

Dust inside and out, polish once with beeswax, never polish with Pledge, keep up the occasional polish with Danish oil or similar (3x a year), line drawers with paper (e.g. giftwrap), put floral or herb sachets in drawers or store soap alongside clothing in drawers, as such furniture is meant to be used. I love this kind of furniture.
