I’m having loads of work done on the house right now so lots of dust, garden debris, sticky stuff about.
I’ve started a deep clean & removed the sofa covers today to find loads of a white, crumbly reside falling off the inside of the material.
It’s not from the inner cushions, it’s almost like the coating from blackout blinds when it’s perished. The sofa is a fairly new M&S faux tweed with 4 removable cushions & a fixed base cover.
I've gently washed the covers even though they say dry clean only and they have come out ok, albeit a little less stiff. What would this be? A glue? A starch? A waterproofing??
It the sofa ruined?
The sofa hasn’t got damp or been in direct sunlight. It’s been vacuumed regularly and had the cushions rotated.
I will post some daylight photos but any advice or experience with this kind of upholstery would be welcome.
I had some VERY helpful tips regarding curtain cleaning last year from lovely MN housekeepers.
