New hoover

DB and his wife need a new hoover and want recs. I’ve got a robot hoover.

Any recs for them or do I just recommend my one? I’ve got an iRobot Roomba. I’ve seen new ones that climb stairs! Anyone used one?

If there is one that can genuinely clean stairs rhey can have all my bank details !
I have a eufy 11s
I have also got a very old vax vacuum and shampooer. It is heavy and cumbersome ( hence the eufy ) but its exceptionally good at cleaning carpets so it gets dragged out every 2 months or so.

Apparently they have legs that climb the stairs!

Good lord!
Do they actually vac the stairs or just walk up them so they can vac upstairs ?

The roborock saros rover does indeed vacuum the stairs.

I held out on Robot vacuum cleaners, but have recently bought a EcoVax X8 and a SwitchBot S20.

They both work much better than I expected, to the point where we no longer use the conventional stick vac, or hard floor cleaner.

They both work with Apple Home (and other smart home solutions) , so can be automated, shouted at, controlled with remotes, etc. They are scheduled to run every at 7:00, and can be triggered to run whenever the house is unoccupied etc.

Both machines need topping up / emptying water about once a week, takes a couple of minutes and a monthly clean-up check the rollers etc. The dust bag lasts a couple of months.

Third party (cheap) spares are available for the EcoVac, but only genuine ones are available for the switchbot S20.

Overall I prefer the EcoVac X8, but they are both surprisingly good.

Ahh you got me all excited @Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain , this one can climb 4cm steps ( so realistically just over rugs and threshold door strips ) not stairs.
Though it does look very fancy and good at is job .
I will put my bank card back in my wallet for now

If they ever get it actually working (seems to be a challenge) I’ll be right behind you buying one. It’ll be my new pet.

They sound good. My brother has apple. They’re just sick of running theirs around and have kids who drop food on the floor.

Can you try that link again @Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain , that one just takes me to the Google home page.

@Dbank do yours mop as well ? I have hard wood and carpet floor with no door between so I don't know how it would cope with that .

Yes they both Vacuum and Mop, detect carpet or hard flooring automatically, and ride over low threshold strips.

ScottBakula · 03/05/2026 19:37

Thankyou @Dbank I will add one of them to my wish list.
