De-cluttering - school books

Newgolddream70 · 15/04/2026 16:29

I am having a clear out and have a huge pile of DS11’s school books from his entire time in Primary. I plan to keep a few but where should I bin the others? Normal household waste or recycling? I actually feel bad about chucking them but DS says he’s not bothered!

Recycling, it’s where the books go in our school when we get rid of things at the year end

Mine all went in recycling with anything identifying like names etc blacked out.

Keep the best examples & shred the rest.
Or tear up as best u can, soak in a bucket of water overnight, squeeze out & dump in paper recycling or landfill wheelie bin.

How are you going to decide which ones to keep and which ones to get rid of?

I need to declutter but I hate the thought of getting rid of old schools books but in reality many of them need to go.

I keep the ones with stories in, eg the primary school “what I did at the weekend” pieces are lovely to read years later. But the ones that are just maths sheets and colouring go in the recycling

That’s a really good idea, thank you!

I’ve gone through them all about three times now! The maths ones aren’t very personal although I’ve kept the first one as it’s quite cute with the big number writing! The English, reading and project books are more entertaining and have photos of DS in so I am keeping those.
