Dishwasher recommendation

We have a fully integrated Zanussi dishwasher, nearly 8 years old (in new build, so I didn’t choose it). I always thought that Zanussi was a premium brand, but not according to the guy who came to fix it 6 months ago - he said it’s maybe 2nd tier out of 4 where 1 is basic and 4 is top notch.

It’s now failed again, in a different way - so going to cut our losses and get a new one. I have owned a house for nearly 40 years and have never bought a dishwasher!

  • which brands/models have a good rating for reliability and durability?
  • Where would you go to get one? Is Ao.com any good? Want someone who will install and take the old one away. We don’t live anywhere near a Curry’s.

Thank you, MN Hive Mind

Don’t get BEKO. Awful.

Bosch

We had an AEG that had endless problems, swapped it for a Miele a couple of years ago and all good so far. I wouldn't buy an appliance from John Lewis again though, sad to say as I used to be a fan but their service was very poor. I've heard Ao.com is better but have never used them.

My sil always buys Miele and they used to be great but the new models nowhere near as good and she has had endless issues over the past 3-4 years.

I would definitely second Bosch. I have had Bosch dishwashers for 40 years and last time tried a different brand which turned out to be dreadful so got rid after 3 years and back with Bosch again which is working superbly well so far after 18 months. (Also it has a 5 year guarantee).

I’ve used Ao.com a lot and find them really good. They will take your old appliance away and install. I’ve found them excellent .

I'm on the hunt for one too. I've heard good things about Bosch.
Would love one that is mostly metal inside, including powder-coated cutlery tray, if that's even a thing. Trying to avoid plastic.

We replaced our 17yr old NEFF with another NEFF, still great, soo cheap to run. Recycles heat and water! Still going strong after 5 years. The old ones water pump went, cost of replacement was £150 for the part alone, figured it'd be better spent on a new machine. I normally use Which to find best machine in my price range

We recently got a new Smeg to replace our old over 10 year old Smeg - it worked for 9 of those ten years (and it might have been older as we got it with the house) which I think is pretty good for a dishwasher, although the clean definitely deteriorated over time. We used a local firm to install and remove/recycle the old one, so I can’t speak to AO but a colleague of mine raves about them. I know people don’t seem to rate Smeg on here but we’ve been fine with them.

ScaryM0nster · 11/04/2026 15:23

One that has a sensible length reasonably hot cycle.

eco low temp cycles do the long term running no good as grease builds up.

We’ve got a neff with a one hour 60degree cycle and it’s fab.

We have a Neff. I picked a semi integrated model which was fairly quiet as it's in an open plan kitchen diner in the kitchen island. We did have an issue with it when we first got it, but it was fixed under warranty.

MotherofPufflings · 11/04/2026 15:27

We bought a Bosch freestanding d/w second hand almost 8 years ago. It did need a DIY repair on the pump a couple of years ago and the timer function no longer works, but it still cleans brilliantly.

@PuzzledObserver worth knowing that Boots Appliances are fulfilled by AO snd you get points on your Boots card if you have one.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 12/04/2026 09:45

Bosch, Siemens and Neff are all made by the same company btw.

cantgardenintherain · 12/04/2026 10:07

My Siemens is awesome and I’ve had it 10 years now.

Nitgel · 12/04/2026 10:25

Be wary of Bosch. We have had no end of trouble eith our brand new oven light and the after care has been slow (though the engineers have been fab). I don't think they're as good as they used to be.

YouCantOpenAWindowInSpace · 12/04/2026 10:37

Indesit.
Our last one was still going strong at 14 years old when we moved house. It had had one replacement cutlery basket, no other issues or repairs.
This one is on its 10th year. Never had an issue -touch wood!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 12/04/2026 11:20

Bosch. Mines lasted for years it’s almost an antique.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 12/04/2026 11:20

Can beat you all, I swear mines lasted 20 years!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 12/04/2026 11:22

Clean dishwasher once a month with special cleansing powder/tablet.

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 13/04/2026 10:31
