Cockroaches

We moved into a new flat two months ago in preparation for baby?s arrival and I was really enjoying living there and excited about preparing the nursery etc until we found four cockroaches! We keep the place spotless and it?s a modern block so we were really surprised. We?ve had pest control in and they?re in the process of getting rid of them but I can?t help but feel my lovely new home has been tarnished and I just don?t feel comfortable there at the moment ? I?m wearing slippers all the time and constantly sweeping and hoovering, always looking out for little black creepy things??... I know pest control methods are pretty good these days and by next week they should be completely eradicated but I keep thinking they might come back ? Baby is due in 6 weeks? time and I have visions of getting up in the night to feed him and seeing them, or seeing them crawling on his bottles or in his formula or, later on, not being able to let him crawl on the carpets etc etc????has anyone else had this problem / heard of anyone who has and why can?t I trust the pest controllers when they assure me that they are doing their job properly???

Yeah, they are checking the other flats too. I know the pest control methods are effective, I just hate the idea that they were ever there in the first place and wonder how I can be 100% they won't come back

sorry i cant reassure you- i've not had that particular problem. we had a mouse in our old house our cat bought in to play with and my method worked well for that. not sure it'll work on cockroaches
i screamed lots at now xp to get it out my house then shut myself on the stairs blubbing like a baby til he had!! i really really hate any creepy crawly type things.

just out of curiosity which floor are you on in the block (am now getting alll panicky thought as i live in a new build things like that wouldnt apply [and obviously dillusional]

i do hope you get the prob sorted asap tho

Thanks. Hehe, I would try that method if I thought it would keep them away!

We live on the top floor of a 3 floor block (only 6 flats in total). But I think it is unusual even so - I've lived in a lot of rented accommodation, including student flats etc and have never experienced it before

mandspice · 19/06/2008 14:10

you will be fine, it is unusual over here......in the US, OZ etc it's a lot more common and people don't freak as much as we do so am trying to relax now and put my faith in Rentokil.........
