Laundry...
I don't usually wear white clothes as I'm cack-handed and messy!
However Ive just bought some lovely 100% cotton Joules pyjamas with bright flowers on a white background.
I love them and want to keep them looking good. The last ones I had look a little faded and grubby now.
I wash laundry with non-bio laundry liquid, at 30*
though I choose 40* if recommended. I found in the past that bio affects my skin, I have some eczema and psoriasis patches.

So, please can you share your tips for keeping the white bright and the colours a'popping!

I have some new ones and I actually read the label which is unheard of! They are wask inside out with powder, no liquid tabs. Who knew.

There's no magic trick that you won't already know. Just don't wash them with darks, use spot stain remover, put some whitening powder in the wash with them and hang them out on the line in the sunshine.

SpookedMackerel · 17/03/2026 13:02

The best tip is to only wash them with other white things, rather than just not-dark.

Use powder instead of liquid.

Dry in the sunshine - or if you must tumble dry them, use the same principle and only do it with other white things.

Thank you all so much for these rapid responses!
I never use powder, so I will buy some.
I honestly don't have any other white or mainly white clothes or even towels or bedding!
I am happy to wash them on their own. ☺️
Though I do have new very pale blue pjs!

I wouldnt use whitener on white clothes that have bright colours on them as it will fade the colours. I also wouldn't wash other whites with them. I would wash with a colour catcher to prevent colour run

Why powder instead of liquid?

Powders tend to contain bleaches to keep whites whiter. Unfortunately those bleaches may take the colour out of the bright flowers as well.
You do get powders for darks/colours
Liquids dont contain bleaches

Sodium percarbonate for your PJs.
if you have skin issues then go to basic soap flakes. I use the ones from French Soaps UK

the effect on the flowers whilst keeping the white bright is my concern!
