Washing machine stopping halfway and clothes boiling!

I’ve been having an on and off issue with my washing machine. It stops about 45 minutes through the cycle and is on the ‘end’ sign (it’s not, it should be going for another 2 hours at least)
I open the door and the clothes are dripping wet and absolutely boiling to touch, theres steam coming out the machine!
What the heck is wrong with it? Most of the time it works fine but now and again this keeps happening

If it's not under warranty or insured I'd just not want to know what's wrong and try and get a new one! But I'm no good at DIY. It could be mechanical or electrical but it sounds like it is dangerous if it's still super wet but boiling hot. Does the drum seem to spin round still?

Maybe its a blocked filter that stops it draining? That usually causes the bother with my washing machine. See if you can check it.

Sounds like something to do with spin cycle. Is it overloaded / very noisy when on or trying to spin? The dripping wet seems like is not spinning and the heat probably from where it is trying to. Check filters and pipes as well.

Does it come up with an error message,

Else ask chat gpt

Washing machine stops half way, clothes are boiling and no error message

It sounds like your washing machine is stopping mid-cycle while the water is extremely hot, and no error code is showing. A few likely causes could be:

Overheating / Thermal Cutoff

Many machines have a safety thermal sensor that will stop the cycle if the water or motor gets too hot. If your clothes are “boiling,” the heating element might be stuck on, causing the machine to shut down.

Faulty Heating Element or Thermostat

If the thermostat is failing, the heater may not regulate temperature correctly, which can overheat the water and trigger a shutdown.

Water Flow or Drainage Issues

Some machines will stop mid-cycle if water can’t drain properly, but usually you’d see an error code. Check the drain hose for kinks or blockages.

Door Lock / Interlock Problem

If the door isn’t sensing closed properly, some machines stop mid-cycle without giving an error.

Control Board Glitch

A failing control board can stop the cycle unexpectedly.

Hi all. I did clean the filter - nothing really in there, other than the ripped off top of a cat food sachet!! No idea how that got in there.
Drum seems to be spinning fine, unfortunately our machine is too old to show error messages

Have you tried using lower temp or shorter cycle
