I had this problem so after cleaning the filter I kept going and discovered (after 18 months of use) that there was a whole other layer under the big mesh pad at the bottom... and inside there was a mass of horrible stinky goo! [puke]

So just in case you haven't found it, there may be a whole extra area inside that needs cleaning. I'm thorough, honest!

I think that might be a "special" job for dh...

oh, believe me, you do not want to be sticking your hands in that mess if you can avoid it! foul, it was!

Make sure it's working OK - we had a dodgy smell in the kitchen recently, kept blaming the bin. Discovered at the weekend that the waste pipe for the dishwasher had perished and the mucky waste water has been quietly leaking out under the dishwasher and under the ceramic tiles on the floor . So not only is the floor sodden, it's sodden with mucky water - bleurgh

Clean all the filters etc. Add a squeeze of ordinary washing up liquid and put in on the hotttest wash you can. Grease can build up in places and that's what smells. I no longer buy those special dishwasher cleaners as they don't seem to work as well as detergent.

geordieminx - in case it helps, I just discovered that the rotating thingies can be opened and cleaned too. Found more of that foul black goo in mine [vom]
