Open plan smells of cooking!

This is our first winter is this house and the downstairs is open plan and the morning after cooking it just smells of… cooking! As soon as I walk through the front door! We already have an extractor hood that’s vented outside which I always use, we clean up immediately after dinner and wipe down all surfaces. I’m really against the use of Febreeze and plugs for health reasons. Any tips on how to have a nice smelling house again? I didn’t find it was an issue in warmer weather with doors and windows open but not practical in winter! 🥶

@bigbaggyblue

I don’t have an open plan home myself…..but whenever I make a curry I leave a saucer of vinegar in the kitchen overnight so I don’t have to come downstairs in the morning to the kitchen smelling of curry!

It really works!

It might be worth a try?

@Roaminginthegloamingi shall give this a go, thank you!

Open a window - yes even in winter.

We have a cooks candle that is supposed to neutralise cooking smells.

I have an air purifier and it takes care of cooking smells pretty fast.

Of course it does! This is why I would never have an open plan home.

Well I quite like the smell of cooking! Makes it feel cosy, as if my mum was still alive and making something yummy. I also have a door that isolates the the downstairs though, which I do close to keep the cats in (once it gets to dinner time)más otherwise they wake me up at 5am. This helps contain the smells, and o do tend to have my back door open for the dog all year round.

I don’t have an open plan house but this drives me crazy too! I open the back door usually but we close the cat flap at about 9.30/10 pm and DH comes home at around 10pm and likes to cook his own dinners and obviously can’t open the back door.
It drives me crazy coming down the next morning to the smells of whatever he’s concocted!
