Lent: Declutter 40

I know there's a declutter thread, but this is more of my stepping stone before it. This Lent I'm setting myself, and anyone that wants to join me, the task of decluttering 40 items.

40 might not seems like a lot, but I'm very much a, I'll keep that, and sell it later, or it'll come in useful, type of person.

I have no excuse, there's a charity shop just down the road that I can take it to.

A declutter is long overdue here and 40 items will be nowhere near enough, but it's a start and should be achievable. Always good to have others to check in with and keep ourselves accountable!

Well, you inspired me to make a start today. I checked through a pile of phonics/learn to read books and photographed them, ready to list for selling as a bundle. I won't list till Weds though!

I'm joining, half term next week so great opportunity to clear stuff

Great idea! I’ll join you. I need to be ruthless. I have lots of home maintenance jobs to do so I might do declutter or fix something every day.

Very randomly had a mini declutter last night while DH went to check on his mum. Some usable uniform polo shirts and shorts I'll donate to the infants for spares.
Some medical stuff that needs to go back to the children's hospital. Will drop off next week.
I have a massive stash of the packing bags that online orders come in which i reuse for Vinted sales. Got rid of some of those and tidied the rest - I am a bag in a bag person 🤦‍♀️

Also sorted the under stairs and found stuff to go to the charity shop that had been bagged up then pushed to the back. Kids now have somewhere to store school bags 🙌

Does anyone call the space under the stairs a cooee?! It has a door to it so it's closed off.

Gosh I need to join. I started last week for a "spring clean" declutter.

But now I feel I've got all the easy wins out of the house and the rest is either sentimental items or a bit daunting or a faff for one reason or another.

I also am giving up mindless scrolling for lent so I should have the time to do it!

This is a great idea! I’ve also done all my easy wins, sold a load of stuff on Vinted and cleared any obvious rubbish. It’s the tough stuff to go now and one item a day seems like a good target. I’m in!

@DeedlessIndeed I did that for Holy Week last year, and one week was so hard for me, so I'll be cheering you on for no scrolling for all of Lent.

I've got a charity shop ready bag that I will get rid of tomorrow, but I'll not count it as its been sat there ready to go for months.

I took five bags of clothes to the charity shop yesterday and did a tip run. I felt a bit down at how much money I’ve spent on clothes over the years (yo-yoing weight). I’m telling myself the important thing is that I learn from now.

@Alwaysoneoddsocki do agree with Marie kondo on this one - give them away and be glad someone else will get use out of them. But also be glad you had clothes that fitted you at the time and now you’ve changed

We've dismantled the kids bunk bed today and taken it to the tip so it's gone gone. It was in good condition and I was trying so hard to find uses for any parts but couldn't. It's a big step forward!! 🙌

@Alwaysoneoddsock think of it as the clothes have served their purpose. They are no longer needed by you. Might help?

Today's the day! It's Ash Wednesday so our declutter officially starts today.

@CatsMcGoo I think books are going to be my starting point as I have piles of books everywhere!

I’d like to join, please! Decluttering is ongoing here, but a target to achieve by Easter would help focus the mind. I’m going to start with uploading to Vinted and EBay- what I don’t manage that way will go to the charity shop in Holy Week. There is some old tech to deal with as well.

Took 3 books to the community bookshelf today, so a good start here
