Stinky Tumble Dryer

Does anyone have any advice on cleaning a condenser tumble dryer?

We try not to use it as far as possible because of the cost but with the constant wet weather it has had a lot more use recently. This morning I found that all the dried clothes smell just like the dog beds that we dried in there a few days ago.

I think that part of the problem is that our very expensive “eco” washing machine doesn’t get anything really clean, especially thick stuff, and so that is affecting the dryer, but how do we clean the dryer so the laundry isn’t smelly?

I can’t afford a new washing machine, and I’m not even sure a new one would be any better than my current one which is only two years old but things come out stained.

Have you cleaned out the big filter at the bottom? I find it's best to run a hose through it in the back garden to flush everything out. I also use dryer sheets in mine.

I agree with PP. There is probably lots of dog hair in the condenser unit that needs flushing out. You are supposed to clean it regularly so the appliance instructions should tell you how. I rinse mine under the utility sink tap.

Re your eco washing machine, perhaps change what ever you are using as a detergent.

re. Dryer, I’d wipe it around with vinegar, that will deodorise it, then clean the filters too
