We are moving this week and I need:

a sofa (brown/black leather)
a children's bed
a trunk
coffee table
computer desk

I live in London does anyone know of any good places to go and find some? Have looked on Ebay, checked DFS and other furniture stores (too expensive). I don't mind buying new for a reasonable price but probably could afford second hand more - limited budget. Any ideas?

Look up auction houses. Car boot sales are fantastic if you can get to one. If you google car boot sales, you should find out when and where they are. We're in the same boat!

oh thanks bladebla that's a good idea. I still need a sofa. We found one but lost it as DP thought he could haggle with the price and get us a bargain

all our furniture is from the local auctions, we got two three seater leather chesterfields and a chair for £500 inc comission, they were as new. i have even been collecting the habitat kitchen units from there.
you can pick up oak wardrobes for £2 sometimes. they always have loads of tables and trunks.
i go to the viewing so i can have a good look at the items and if there is anything i like i work out what time they will be auctioned and pop in on the day to bid. mine do about 150 lots and hour. always check the item before you bid as sometimes people damage them or remove vital bits to get them cheaper.
