Remove permanent marker from a guitar...

We just bought a guitar of Ebay for DS, and a previous owner has written their name on the front in red marker / felt tip. Has anyone had a similar experience () and have any tips on how to get rid of it?

You should be able to get that off with alcohol. Baby wipes contain alcohol. However if it's red it may leave a stain.

That's got to be the fastest response ever!

Hmmm... no baby wipes here currently. Just tried nail varnish remover. It took some of the colour away, but I can't decide if it's better or worse!

Where abouts on the guitar is it? If it's on the fretboard, use linseed oil, actually linseed oil might shift it anyway.

Ah you said on the front. Don't use nail varnish remover, the formalydehyde with much up the varnish. You can of course gently sand it and then revarnish it (yacht varnish is good for this).

your could try hairspray, i know we used to use this on our folders at school to remove marker pen when we changed boyfriend

Nail varnish remover doesn't seem to have done any damage.

Think revarnishing may be a step too far - it's a half size guitar and DS is three - so this is entirely for my benefit.

Hairspray? Really? On to a cloth, presumably, rather than sprayed on to the wood? Not sure I'm convinced - anyone actually done this on wood? (No offense, katz!)
