Has anyone used a shredding service?

Hi, I have a large amount of paperwork that needs shredding which would take a crazy amount of time to do myself. Has anyone had experience of using a professional shredding service? The ones I’ve found are either very expensive or for business use only. Thanks

I have, it's brilliant. The company who do ours is attached to a local removals firm. You buy a bag from them (sorry, can't really how much, less than £10 though) and when it's full you cable tie it up and take it back in.

The cost of the bag includes the cost of the shredding of course, so no more to pay. You then get an email certificate in a few days to confirm that it's been securely shredded.

Edit - I've just had a look, and the company who do the actual shredding is Simply Shredding, they seem to be nationwide so you could have a look at their website.

That’s brilliant! This exactly what I need!

If it's sensitive paperwork how do you know they don't read it before they shred it? If it's really of not much importance fair enough. I would want to see it all go through the shredder myself, paranoid, moi?

I used Shred-It. Bags are included in the price. The minimum charge is £75 +vat. It worked out cheaper than buying bags from another company (which were 4.99 + vat per bag) and then there would be a £75 collection fee 🤣

Not at all

I can't remember the name of the company I used, sorry

But I actually saw it being shredded on the van.

When we moved, we found a place you could drive to (in Bristol), where your shredding was weighed and then shredded while you watched. We needed it done quickly and this was quicker than waiting for the mobile van etc.

Yes, I used a firm in Camberley, near where I used to live, took it there in plastic crates, they weighed it, then took off the weight of the crates. I tipped it into the machine and watched it disappear, I think it was something like £1/kg for the first 20kg then less after that, they also did compact discs and harddrives. They also offered "certificates of destruction".

Thanks for all the recommendations. Interesting to see the different options out there and prices.
