I now have 2 dogs literally shedding hair all the time and have had a fairly lacklustre effort in cleaning it .
Two questions please ,
A recommendation for a really good hoover , as small and light but effective as possible

and also I use washing machine cleaners but it doesn’t dissolve the hair so I end up manually cleaning the drum after I’ve washed their jumpers . And idea If there’s anything I can add to dissolve hairs in the drum .
Thankyou .

I have a German Shepherd so know all about the hair. I got a fantastic vacuum on Amazon a few months ago. It's like a Dyson dupe and has a green light on the front that shows all the hair. My floor can look spotless but then this light shows soooo much hair invisible to the naked eye. I also bought one for my parents who find it so easy to use.

As for the washing machine, you can buy Vamoosh which is a powder you put in with the washing. It dissolves the hair.

I have both gtech upright and handheld which is good for dog hair, does your dogs need jumpers how often are they wearing and you washing them if the hair is blocking your machine, anyway i wash dog bedding in an old duvet cover it catches some of the hair.

Thanks both , I’ve ordered some vamoosh , someone has suggested a Henry Pet for hair aswell so need to do some more research .

Do you have carpets/mats?

If so, the best thing I found that works even better than a Hoover, is to physically sweep with a rubber bristled broom. For me this gets up way more hair than my hoover. And it has the flat edge on the other side (like the window cleaner thingie) and that works like a bomb too.

Same with getting hair off your clothing. Put on a pair of rubber gloves sweep the hairs off.

My Lab sheds excessively (medical issue) and the above works the best for us.

Oh I see you posted a few days ago.

How strange. This thread was at the top of Active with no replies ... 👀

I have a lab, sheds all year round, hair is a nightmare. I use a pet laundry bag for washing his blankets and invested in a robot hoover that can be sent out a few times a day to keep on top of it in between normal hoovering, I don't have carpets though

Thanks everyone . I do have carpets in most rooms , the hard floors I can sweep but the carpet is the most problematic. The sofas are always covered in throws , which need washing , hence needing a washing machine cleaner.

Do you have a link for your broom please I’m not quite visualising it .

I know the pedigree breed purest will have something to say, but i grew up with dog fur, when i got my own dog i deliberately chose a low shedding crossbreed (Bedlington terrier x cocker) and i would never have anything other than a low shedding dog again in the future.
