Is there a list for idiots like me about how many of each you should have?

I really struggle to be organised. I have a lot of clutter. What I think would help is a list. What should my kitchen have in a house of 4, sometimes 6, people? I have far too many plates etc. is there such a list? Am I making sense? I just think if I had a list that said you need x number of plates, glasses etc. and tell me what essential cooking items, pans etc I need then I’d find it easier to chuck stuff.

In a household of 4 or 6 (and a dishwasher) I think I’d work on a basis of 12. Easily divisible.
So 12 each of plates, cutlery, simple glass.
2 mugs for each adult.

1 large, 1 small frying pan.
2 saucepans (I prefer a 20cm steamer and use the steamer section as a colander)
Cull your utensils to what will comfortably fit your container. Tongs, slotted spoon and spatula are a must.
Box grater, swivel peeler and sieve.
Bread knife, small sharp knife, chef’s knife.

If you have a microwave, a Pyrex measuring jug and 2 bowls.

Then there’s the personalized stuff…
Baking equipment, casserole dishes, serving dishes, lunch boxes, freezer containers.
and that way madness lies!

Agreed but recommend extra teaspoons.

It depends on how much you cook from scratch. I am sure there are lists out there.
