Best fabric conditioner to soften clothes

Please recommend fabric conditioners that actually make clothes soft! I'm not too bothered about the scent. I use soda crystals to soften the water and use white vinegar for towels. Thank you.

I’m a Tallow & Ash fan, works really for me.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 28/12/2025 13:59

It’s unnecessary in my view and I hate most of the scents; they are so artificial & overpowering. For me, it doesn’t make clothes soft just slightly greasy-feeling. If you have a tumble drier, fluff the towels in it when they are almost dry, then they are soft without FC. Also one of my friends is allergic to the scent of fabric conditioners.

Jamfirstest · 28/12/2025 14:01

Vinegar if you must. Dp has just bought softened again and it’s annoyed me. It’s pointless!!

TwilightSkies · 28/12/2025 14:04

This isn’t the right forum for fabric conditioner recommendations OP 😂

Youll get repeatedly told that vinegar is the only option and anything else is pungent and artificial.

I like lenor, but MN in general hate it and use vinegar for everything including their daily bowl of gruel/massive salad.

Davros · 28/12/2025 14:13

I use Lenor, tescos own, M&S own etc. my washing definitely smells better with it, I tried without. Sorry folks!

This made me laugh out loud 🤣🤣

Oh you're brave asking this question on MN. Only vinegar allowed. 😁

I use comfort...the blue one and have forever.

Davros · 28/12/2025 15:06

And I use scent boosters 😱

Nootnoot1 · 28/12/2025 16:24

🤣🤣🤣 I didn't know softener was so frowned upon on Mumsnet! I didn't ask for opinions on alternatives to fab con, just recommendations on which one makes the clothes softest. 😆

Thanks for suggestions so far!

Then perhaps you are not best placed for a constructive reply.

I like Blue Lenor, Blue Comfort and Fairy. They make my clothes softer, even without a tumble drier.

TheWibble · 28/12/2025 16:40

I recently switched to sainsburys green care fabric conditioner. It's in what looks like a cardboard milk carton, smells lovely and it's my favourite one i've found so far. I use the the sandalwood and tonka fragrance.

xanthomelana · 28/12/2025 16:50

Buckle up OP, this is not the place for fans of fabric softener.

BretonStripe · 28/12/2025 21:08

I live in a hard water area and love this one - Comfort Botanicals (pink one with green lid).
